Leadership Roles And Lead Teams During My Internship With...

This past summer, I was able to take leadership roles and lead teams during my internship with Community Empowerment Solutions in Ecuador. It was during this experience where I began to see my leadership skills unfold. One big critique of my leadership is that I can be mean. It was times when my teammates weren’t working hard enough or not moving where I wanted to be that I didn’t know how to communicate these problems in an efficient manner in order to get my point across. This caused tension and bad chemistry in our group. In retrospect, I see that I was moving too fast and not pausing to observe what was happening around me. I wasn’t a critic of myself and I didn’t take time to assess my group or new ideas that they brought forward. I now see that when getting to an end point in a project, one must always assess the environment and direction that the group is heading—pivoting and retracting when it’s called for and efficiently communicatin g with teammates. One aspect of my leadership that I think is a strength is being able to get rolling on a project. Facilitating ideas and coming together to map out the direction of a project is something I excel at. I can assign roles that fit people’s skills and give them instruction on where they need to go. While I mentioned that, I need to evaluate situations closer, I have the ability to move a team forward. During the summer, I was always able to organize the team and get us started on our projects.
